Rieslingfreak No.3 2021 Clare Valley Riesling
Lovely pale fresh apple juice colour in the glass. On the nose Zippy granny smith apple, fairly floral too. On the palate vibrant acid that is super loud but isn’t at all overpowering. Super refreshing – a great champagne replacement actually. It’s crisp, dry, refreshing and perfect with fresh seafood or any beginning nibbles really. It’s a certain style – you’ve got to be in the mood, but it’s a great quality example of that style. The winemaker won winemaker of the year – just makes Riesling and it’s one of the few labels I really feel I can trust – he’s making wine with substance and passion.
Look, it’s good but I’m less excited compared to how I felt about the 2020. The acid isn’t as racy / it’s less vibrant / exciting. Passable but may have to be a no.
