Nocturne Chardonnay 2020 from Treeton, Margaret River, WA
There’s so much buzz around this winery and their wines I just had to jump in!!
First of all, as soon as I unscrewed the cap and stuck my nose in the bottle (can’t help it!) I smiled – always a good sign! I want instantly likable whenever possible.
On the nose (from the glass this time) it’s a real gorgeous fatty cashew and lemon zest mix. Pretty, poised and inviting. On the palate WOW – it’s a stunning wine. Heaps of richness (more than expected tbh, could’ve been a lean one by the nose) heaps of generosity, lemon butter laced throughout, perfect weight and texture.
I feel like a lucky man to be drinking this today. A triumph, amazing value, can see what all the fuss is about (and let me tell you that’s rarely the case). Cheers to chardonnay all day – wine like this explains to us all why the Chard haters have just tasted cheap Chardonnay because my god Chardonnay gets great! – Day 3 (no day 2, didn’t get a chance). Way more buttery on the nose – ok wow this is freaking good! I think it’s a touch young because after a couple days of air it’s shining! Kind of reminds me of the Kumeu river chard – great but soo early for it. Smooth, generous texture, rich oak with spiking acid throughout. Winner.
