Clarence House Estate Chardonnay 2018 from Tasmania
Lovely straw colour in the glass. On the nose hint of lemon peel and maybe even a squeeze of lemon juice. On the palate beautifully light and restrained, more lemon, lovely subtle yet weighty texture (full without much butter/wood). That’s some serious stuff. The vineyard is only 5 minutes away AND actually made by the marvelous folks at Pooley which do some of the best Pinot and Chardonnay in the country. When I heard that Clarence house was so close and even had their wine made by the same people – how could anything go wrong? (It could, but didn’t) Great stuff and definitely a contender for the wine pack – now I’m hanging for a bit more butter on the reserve! This is a chardonnay that you cant really dislike – now it’s on the lean side but quality, undeniable quality. DAY 2: Whisper more generosity on the nose.
A really nice wine – be interesting to do them side by side in the pack? Day 3 – honestly really good – it’ll age well for sure – more oak coming through, more butter – delicious!
