Arnaud Lambert Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg Saumur Chenin Blanc 2019
Straight out the gate it looks awesome!! Great colour. On first nosing you know you’re in for a treat. Honeysuckle, I haven’t tasted yet but my mouth is involuntarily salivating!
On the palate super doper tight – freshly squeezed lemon juice (can almost feel it dripping down my knuckles) touch of oxidative quality, dry – would maybe have benefited from a hint of sugar for richness on the palate – this is fairly action packed and complex but wholly tight and lean on the palate.
No doubting it’s a great wine, it just needs some air – it’s 5:06pm on Friday the 16th of July. Lets see how it develops in the glass and in the bottle with oxygen exposure. As it warms it starts to come together. Definite potential for the club but must wait and see. 5:14pm (8 mins later). Swirling away for minutes, getting warmer and it’s coming out to say hello! It’s in balance, less tight but still tight -acid is dropping away – no longer loud at all, just a pleasant lemon tart presence, hint of quince paste
This could be in the too hard to like category in spite of how good it is, we don’t want people to have to find the good - we want it to be obviously delicious. It’s now 5:26 and I’m liking it more and more
Now more Green apple on the nose 5:40pm – like a mellow green apple flavour profile but not the loud acid coming up – oh there it is .. still in the running – 35 mins of air and a second splash in the glass its just the weight that isn’t maybe what I want – I want a thicker more indulgent texture geez it has merit though. Not cheap so should be sure.
@balancewineco standard? NO (still good though)
